Infections

Infections are a common concern for those who have body piercings so it is important to monitor your piercing closely. Infections typically happen with new piercings in healing but keep in mind that all piercings can get infected. This is true even for the old and well-established piercings that are fully healed. Infections typically happen when bacteria and other harmful microorganisms get inside of the piercing hole. Since new piercings are still flesh wounds, it is easy for these microorganisms to get into the bloodstream and cause trouble. Infections in piercings can spread quickly, so it is important to consult your doctor as soon as you notice a problem developing. Common warning signs of piercing infections include swelling, redness, pus, pain and pulsating feeling around the piercing. In more advanced infections, fever may develop and sometimes piercing infections can cause serious health consequences. This is why it’s so important to go to a doctor when you notice signs of a piercing infection.

Infections can also be a problem for people who use sex toys. Since adult toys come in contact with sensitive body parts, they can spread bacteria and other microorganisms unless they are properly cleaned. This is why it’s so important to know how to clean or, better, sterilize your sex toys. Metal toys can be autoclaved to be fully sterilized but not everyone has an autoclave. This is why many people boil metal toys in water to remove bacteria. This is not a perfect method but it does help in sterilization. Keep in mind that proper cleaning and sterilization are crucial for preventing infections with sex toys. Some types of sex toys, such as urethral toys, can be a great source of infections unless you sterilize them properly.
