Many lip piercings are done at a distance from your mouth. It means that a lip ring has to be large enough to accommodate for that distance. This is not always feasible, and it might not be practical. While some people like to wear such rings for an effect, they may be uncomfortable or even dangerous.

Rings are good for piercings that are located close to your mouth. Such a ring can accommodate that small distance without being uncomfortable or dangerous. For such piercings, you can generally choose between rings and labret studs. On the other hand, piercings that are located at a larger distance are better accommodated with labret studs.
