Different Types of Prince Albert Piercings

price albert piercingPrince Albert is probably the most famous genital piercing in the world. In fact, when people talk about male genital piercings, chances are that they think about PA. While this is not correct the confusion is understandable, due to huge popularity of PA piercing.

What is important to know is that there are actually several types of PA piercings, only one of them being “standard” PA that is so common. This piercing type has one major variant and a completely different piercing type that shares a similar name, so it is important to understand their similarities and differences.

Standard Prince Albert

A Standard PA piercing is the most popular form. This is a male genital piercing that uses urethral opening as one of the holes while the other hole is performed on the underside of the glans. It means that part of the piercing jewelry uses the natural opening in the body – urethra. This fact alone makes PA one of the least painful genital piercings. If you wish to have a penis piercing but you do not want to go through much pain and discomfort, then standard Prince Albert is the best choice for you.

Typical jewelry used for regular Prince Albert piercing are curved barbells, circular barbells and Captive Bead Rings. In order to make the experience pleasurable for the partner during sex the jewelry has to be of larger gauge. This is why many men choose to stretch their PA piercings.

Reverse Prince Albert

A Reverse Prince Albert piercing is made to mirror regular PA. Both use urethral opening as one of the holes for the piercing. While PA exists through the hole made on the bottom of the glans, Reverse PA exits through the hole on top of the penis glans.

Reverse PA is both a mirror image or PA and a half-Apadravya. Apadravya piercing is a penis piercing done vertically through the glans. It means it basically consists of a PA and Reverse PA joined in one piercing. If you already have a Reverse PA (or a PA) piercing you can done the other half to get an Apadravya piercing.

The placement alone shows that Reverse PA is a more complex piercing than regular PA. It goes through more tissue than regular PA and is thus more painful. However, as with many piercings, people claim that this one was less painful than expected. That being said, it is absolutely crucial to find an experienced piercer who knows how to perform a Reverse PA correctly. Someone who only knows how to perform regular PA piercings just won’t do.

Good jewelry for Reverse PA is the same as for general PA: curved barbells, circular barbells and Captive Bead Rings.

Deep PA

Deep PA piercing is a variation of a Prince Albert piercing done on more tissue than regular PA. When this piercing is performed the exit hole is done down on the shaft and not on the underside of the glans.

This produces a deep placement and a bigger jewelry is needed to accommodate this type of piercing. Typical jewelry for Deep PA is a large Captive Bead Ring or a curved barbell. Some people even choose a labret stud for their Deep PA.

Another advantage to Deep PA is that it can accommodate large gauge jewelry. In fact, it is often done at large gauge initially and it’s not stretched (though stretching is also possible). If you wish to have a large gauge PA piercing and do not want to go through the stretching process, Deep PA might be a good solution for you.
