The Most Popular Genital Piercings

The Most Popular Genital PiercingsGenital piercings are more popular than people think. While they are not as common as earlobe piercings, nostril piercings or navel piercings, they are much more popular than it is sometimes believed. In fact, some genital piercings, such as Prince Albert (PA) are among the most well-known piercings in the world.

There are separate genital piercings for men and women. Before you choose to get a genital piercing make sure to be informed about the procedure, healing time, pain and other factors. Keep in mind that not all genital piercings are complicated nor particularly painful, so if you are scared of pain you can find a genital piercing that suits you.

The most popular genital piercings for men include Prince Albert (PA), Reverse Prince Albert, Apadravya, Ampallang, Dolphin, Dydoe, Frenum, Lorum, Hafada and Guiche.

The most popular genital piercings for women include Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH), Horizontal Clitoral Hood (HCH), Triangle, Inner Labia and Outer Labia. Please note that certain female genital piercings, such as clitoral piercing or Princess Albertina exist but are much rarer than other female genital piercings. Also, it is important to note that clitoral hood piercings, which are among the most common female genital piercings, are not the same as clitoral piercings – they are less complex and less painful than true clitoral piercing. This is an important thing to keep in mind when choosing a genital piercing for yourself.

Prince Albert

The Most Popular Genital PiercingsPrince Albert (PA) is the most popular genital piercing in the world. This piercing is done on the underside of the penis, just below the glans. The other side of the piercing uses the natural opening in the body – urethra. This way, the jewelry goes inside the urethra and exits on the underside of the penis.

Despite looking complex, this is a relatively easy piercing and it’s not even that painful.

Keep in mind, the only hole that is made is the one on the underside of the penis.

Most of the piercing uses the body’s natural canal, urethra, so there is nothing to pierce there.

Typical PA jewelry is a curved barbell although some men prefer to use Captive Bead Rings.

This piercing heals relatively quickly, in 4 to 6 weeks.

Reverse PA

This is a more intense and a bit more complex form of Prince Albert. This piercing uses the urethral opening, but instead exiting on the underside of the penis, the other hole is made on the top of the penis. There is more tissue to pierce with Reverse PA than traditional PA, so this is why it’s a bit more complex piercing. That being said, there are many men with this piercing so it’s not really rare.

Apadravya

Apadravya is a vertical penis piercing. That is, the jewelry passes vertically through the penis head. Apadravya is typically done centrally so it passes through the urethra. This piercing is essentially PA piercing and Reverse PA connected into one piercing: the jewelry enters the body on the top of the penis and goes out on the underside of the penis head.

Apadravya is considered a functional piercing because it enhances sexual pleasure for the wearer and his partner. It is particularly known for massaging a woman’s G-spot during sex, so it is considered a very arousing piercing.

Typical jewelry for Apadravya is straight barbell. This piercing takes between 4 and 6 months to heal, though sometimes it takes longer to heal.

Ampallang

Ampallang is a horizontal penis piercing. That is, the piercing passes horizontally through the shaft. Sometimes, the piercing is placed so it passes through the urethra while some piercers choose to do it all above the urethra.

This is a more advanced piercing because it passes through a lot of tissue. However, it is still a relatively popular male genital piercing. This piercing is often considered functional since it can enhance sexual pleasure for the wearer and his partners.

Typical jewelry for Ampallang piercing is a straight barbell. This piercing takes a bit longer to heal, around 6 months or even longer.

The most common starting gauges are 14 through 10 gauge. The ampallang can be stretched after it is healed if a larger gauge is desired later. Length is based on the measurement when erect. After the piercing is healed, a bar post which is short enough to actually pinch slightly when one is erect is often pleasurable.

Dolphin Piercing

Dolphin piercing is done on the underside of the penis, typically on the center. The piercing starts where PA piercing ends, on the underside of the penis just below the penis head, and it ends lower on the shaft. Some men choose to have dolphin piercings positioned on the side instead centrally, even though central position is the most common one.

Typical jewelry for Dolphin piercing is a curved barbell. This piercing heals in about 6 to 8 weeks.

Dydoe

The Most Popular Genital PiercingsDydoe is done through the rim of the penis glans. Typically, Dydoe piercings are done on the edges and in pairs. These piercings take around 2 and 3 months to heal. Typical jewelry for Dydoe piercings is curved barbell, even though some men prefer to use Captive Bead Rings.

Frenum

Frenum piercing is done on the shaft of the penis, but it doesn’t affect the shaft tissue. It is done on the surface of the skin.

While it can be positioned anywhere on the shaft it is typically done centrally and in the middle of the penis shaft.

Typical jewelry for Frenum piercing is a straight barbell or a Captive Bead Ring. Many men choose to get numerous Frenum piercings to forma a so-called “Frenum Ladder”.

Lorum

Lorum is a variant of a Frenum piercing positioned very low on the shaft, near the base of the penis. It is a very similar piercing to Frenum and the main difference is the placement.

Hafada

Hafada is a surface piercing done on the scrotum. It doesn’t really go through the tissue in the scrotum and it affects only the skin. It can be seen as an equivalent of Frenum and Lorum, only done on the scrotum.

Typical jewelry include Captive Bead Rings and straight barbells. Keep in mind that Hafada is much different than piercings that affect the tissue of the scrotum. These piercings are known as Transscrotal Procedures.

Guiche

Guiche is a piercing done on the perineum, on the spot between the scrotum and the anus. Many men find this placement very pleasurable, although it is important to be careful while sitting and moving since it is a sensitive placement.

Guiche piercings tend to heal in 2 to 3 months. Typical jewelry are Captive Bead Rings.

Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH)

The Most Popular Genital PiercingsVertical Clitoral Hood piercing is the most popular female genital piercing in the world. Please note that it is not done on the clitoris itself: it passes only through the thin tissue covering the clitoris. As such, it is not particularly painful.

The piercing is done vertically through the hood. Typical jewelry includes curved barbell. This piercing is quick to heal: it takes only 4 to 8 week to be completely healed. It is considered a functional piercing since it can enhance sexual pleasure.

Horizontal Clitoral Hood (HCH)

This is a horizontal variant of the clitoral hood piercing. It is less common than the VCH because it brings less pleasure than the vertical variant. Still, there are many women who choose to get this piercing because it looks very beautiful when jewelry is inserted. Just like the vertical variant, HCH only passes through the thin skin that covers the clitoris and not through clitoris itself.

Typical jewelry for this piercing is a circular barbell or a Captive Bead Ring. The healing time is similar to VCH: around 6 to 8 weeks.

Triangle

Triangle piercing is very stunning and attractive. It is one of the most popular female genital piercings in the world. It is not particularly painful but it requires a very knowledgeable piercer to perform, so it is vital to choose an experienced professional to perform this piercing on you.

Triangle piercing is done behind the clitoris and it exits the body on the sides of the clitoris. This produces a very stunning look but only if the piercer is skillful enough to position the piercing properly. This is a very pleasurable piercing that enhances sexual pleasure so it is definitely considered a functional piercing.

This piercing heals in 2 to 3 months. Typical jewelry for Triangle piercing is a circular barbell.

Inner Labia

This is a piercing done on the inner labia. This piercing is quick to heal: it takes only 4 to 6 weeks to be fully healed. Typical jewelry is a Captive Bead Ring. Many women like to wear multiple piercings on their labia so Inner Labia piercings are often done in pairs or groups.

Outer Labia

This is a piercing done on the outer labia. Typical jewelry for this piercing are Captive Bead Rings, but some women choose to wear circular barbells in their Outer Labia piercings. Often times, this piercing is done in pairs or groups. This piercing passes through more tissue than other genital piercings done on women so it takes longer to heal: typically, it takes 2 to 3 months to be fully healed.

Fourchette

The Most Popular Genital PiercingsFourchette is a piercing done on the perineum and it makes a female version of the male Guiche piercing. Typical jewelry for this piercing is a curved barbell. Fourchette piercing takes about 2 to 3 months to heal.

Rare Genital Piercings: Clitoris and Princess Albertina

These are the most popular female genital piercings. Keep in mind that some other female genital piercings may sound popular by name but are actually not common. Clitoral piercing, for example, is very rare. This is a piercing that goes through the clitoris itself. This is a very advanced and complex piercing so not many piercers are knowledgeable enough to perform it. Also, most women are not anatomically suited for it.

Another rare genital piercing for women is Princess Albertina. This is a female equivalent to male Prince Albert piercing, but it’s much rarer than the male variant. Princess Albertina enters female urethra and exits on the top of the vagina. It may be pleasurable for women who like urethral stimulation but it also carries a high risk of urinary tract infections, so it is not a popular piercing for women. That being said, there are women who do get this piercing, as well as those who have clitoral piercing.
