Typical Design of a Captive Bead Ring

Captive Bead Rings (CBRs) are the most popular types of piercing rings. They consist of a hoop (body of the ring) and a removable bead. There are two main types of Captive Bead Rings, depending on the method used for holding the ball. Tension style rings have a ball with dimples to hold the ends of the ring. Snap fit style rings have a smooth ball and the ends of the ring have spring-loaded parts that hold the ball in place. Balls on CBRs come in many different sizes, colors and decorations so they can be very attractive.

How to Open and Close Captive Bead Rings?

In order to hold the bead properly, Captive Bead Rings need to stay tight. This is why it’s not always easy to open and close them without deforming the ring. This is why it’s best to use special ring opening pliers for opening your CBRs and ring closing pliers for closing them.

Large Gauge Rings

Captive Bead Rings come in many different sizes (gauges). Those with stretched piercings need to use large gauge Captive Bead Rings. Since CBRs are so popular they often come in very large gauges, such as 2gague, 0 gauge, 00 gauge, or even larger.
