Thanks for the encouragement; I finally got my tongue pierced last weekend. Really the only pain I'm experiencing is where my tongue is swollen around the jewelry. Other than that, it's not been bad at all. I know I've got quite some time to go before I can switch out my jewelry, but I'm going shopping on thechaingang.com right now! :)

If I may, I'd like to give a shout out to the Emporium of Design in Denver, CO... they are professional, knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy. Thanks guys!

Just wanted to add:
Tongue piercings are HOT! Worth the annoyance of getting used to having a bit of metal inside your face (a few days and you're talking normal again) and after the inital healing, pretty easy to take care of if you already follow good hygiene practices.

I'm 61+ I've had mine for 10yrs with no problems at all . I wear an 8 guage, 3/8" barbell. The shorter bar does'nt click on my teeth , and most of the time it isn't noticeable, even when I talk.

Hi There,
You really do not have to worry about the Keloids on the tongue piercing, as they usually are only a problem on cartilage piercings such as the ear and the nose piercings. Honestly I have never ever seen one on a tongue piercing. Now you can have scar tissue, or a scar as that you can have with any type of wound, there is no avoiding that. However I would really not be that concerned about that either.
However you do want to take great care in choosing a Professional Piercer as the tongue piercing is actually a dangerous piercing, as their are 2 veins that run down either side of your tongue that you do not want to have cut or pierced with the needle. I have heard of one person that fell asleep and woke up in a pool of blood and another that lost part feeling in their tongue from the piercing. Now this is not meant to scare you there are horror stories about every body piercing, it is just something that does warrant a valid concern. If you choose a Professional Experienced Piercer, then you will not have any problem at all, as it is a very easy piercing. It is very easy to get it right, you just want to make sure that you do not get it wrong is all.

I've been wanting a tongue piercing for some time now, but am hesitant because I'm worried about keloids. I have an upper-ear piercing that scarred, but have otherwise been free of keloids (5 other ear piercings, 1 eyebrow, 1 nose).

I realize it's different for everyone, and do plan to talk to my piercer about it, but do you have any advice regarding scarring and keloids when it comes to tongue piercings?
