A nipple piercing is a body piercing, centered usually at the base of the nipple. It can be pierced at any angle but is usually done horizontally or, less often, vertically. It is also possible to place multiple piercings on top of one another. The perforation of the nipple to apply jewelry has been practiced by various people throughout history, male and female. Why do people get their nipples pierced you ask? Most men and women claim an increase in sensitivity and arousal after having their nipples pierced. As a result there has been a reported increase of men and women requesting this procedure.
While there are not many potential complications some people have noted that they can take up to a year and a half to heal fully. The nipple is typically fleshy enough to pierce securely behind plenty of skin to prevent rejection. However, if the nipple jewelry gauge is too thin or the piercing is not deep enough to begin with, there is a risk of rejection. Certain complications can make rejection more likely, such as metal allergies, infections, or excessive pulling/tugging. If your nipples are sore during the healing process, an ice pack can do wonders. If you don’t have an ice pack, a package of small frozen vegetables like peas or corn works really well. Also salt water soaks will provide comfort to a sore nipple piercing. Most nipples will rest comfortably in a small cup of salt water, so this can be done easily while watching TV, reading a book or relaxing. Soak each pierced nipple for about 5 minutes and then rinse well. During the day or for an easier solution you can simply use the H20cean Piercing Aftercare Spray which is made for piercing aftercare.
To avoid any complications you will need to care for your piercing! First you need to soak the piercing in an epsom salt water solution for about 5-10 minutes. Once you’ve soaked the piercing you will need to properly clean and disinfect the area. Wipe away all the dry and dead skin, then apply liquid soap on a q-tip or cotton ball and gently clean the area. Rinse the area well and be sure to get all the soap off. After you’ve soaked and thoroughly cleaned your piercing, you can finish with the saline solution. Squirt the entire piercing with the saline and then rotate your piercing very carefully to prevent the skin growing to the piercing. You will also need to make sure your nipples stay off limits until healed so as to not suffer setbacks.
Nipple piercing jewelry can come in a variety of choices! One of which is barbells, which includes straight barbells, circular barbells, curved barbell, and spirals. You may also choose to wear a ring which could be a fixed ring, or a captive ring. A few other choices are stirrups, shields, collars, whirls, rounders, clamps, discs, spirals, covers, caps, and swings. With so many choices how do you choose? Well its really a matter of personality and what you find attractive! Don’t limit yourself be open to different options! Just make sure the material they are made from is safe! Usually you want to stick with Surgical Steel, Gold, Hybrids, or Titanium, some others that are commonly used are , blackline, and acrylic pieces.
A common question that comes up for women is, will nipple piercings affect the ability to breastfeed? There is no evidence that pierced nipples will affect your ability to breastfeed. Your breasts will still produce adequate milk for your baby. Each nipple has between fifteen and twenty tiny nipple pores that the milk comes out of, so even if some were damaged, there should be plenty left for nursing. However there is always the chance of complications that are not the norm, and can not be accounted for so it is each woman’s decision.
There however are several complications resulting from nursing with nipple jewelry inserted can include poor latch, slurping, gagging, and milk leaking from the baby’s mouth. So it is best to remove nipple piercings before breastfeeding. Most body piercing Professionals however will refuse to pierce a pregnant woman because piercing causes stress on the body that could potentially complicate a pregnancy.
By following these guidelines and your piercers advice you should be able to avoid complications and enjoy your piercings to the fullest!
Piercings can represent a person’s personality in many different ways. The placement of the piercing(s), the size, shape, and the jewelry all help define that person’s individuality a little more. Some people like to push their bodies to limits they never thought they could reach or handle. Body modifications help them achieve this goal.
Most body modification enthusiasts enjoy stretching or gauging their piercings to larger sizes. This could be for a number of reasons. One reason could be that they want to see how far they can push their bodies to the max limit. Another could have to do with their individuality. The need to stand out in a crowd, personal preferences as far as the way they want to appear, or even sexual desires may also play a role in the decision to stretch or gauge their piercing.
The Most Common Body Piercings:
One of the most common piercings to gauge is the ear lobe. After the ear has been pierced and completely healed it can be stretched to astonishing sizes. There are different ways to gauge the ears. Tapers are very popular. These are spike like body jewelry that come in a number of different sizes, used to gradually stretch the piercing. Another way to gauge is by using weights. Once the gauged piercing has healed, adding weights can help stretch it to greater size. “S” hooks are usually used to add the weights to the piercing.
Weights are not just used to help stretch piercings to larger sizes. Some men who practice ball stretching also enjoy adding weights to their ball weights for more pleasure or for better results. Some ball weights are specifically designed to accommodate added weights. For instance, a “Parachute Ball Stretcher” is designed so that weights can be added to the chains that are attached to the soft leather “parachute”. There are different sizes and shapes of weights that can be added to satisfy the individual’s needs.
Adding on weights to a labia piercing is not unheard of either. Women with labia piercings find that adding the weights to be very arousing and visually stimulating. The weights seem to increase the sensitivity for some women, making this to be a very fun activity. For those who are into the BDSM scene you can also use the weights in part of these practices. Being used during a bondage sessions and allowing your partner to add weights to the labia piercing can prove to be very erotic to both parties involved.
Don’t forget to check out all the different extra add on weights we have available here at The Chain Gang for all different piercings!
Being “Fixed” means that you will not have to worry about losing the charm, or fumbling with loose beads, like you might with a captive ring. Also it will always be facing the same way instead of spinning around backwards.
It can be set for a horizontal like for a nipple piercing which the D-Rings are really great for, or any vertical piercing like for a navel piercing. The Gem Setting can be made in either 14K White or Yellow Gold which ever you prefer, and in a wide variety of gem colors.
The Triple Melee Hybrid Fixed Ring is a truly unique piece in looks. But still as with all the Hybrids the setting is 14k Gold, and the Ring is 316LVM Surgical Steel. The main stone is 6mm in size and the setting attached to the ring so that you never have to worry about losing it like you would with a captive charm. The 3 smaller gems on the bottom are considered the dangle color and can be a different color than the main gem color if you chose. It can be set horizontal or vertical which ever you prefer. The Gem Setting can be made in either 14K White or Yellow Gold at no additional charge to you.
This is an excellent piece. Is best used for nipple and ear piercings. Off the captive bead is a unique ball formation, decreasing in size, divided by a small bar bell.
The Blackline Star Nipple Shield is a nice addition to your nipple jewelry. There are not many Black Nipple Shields available.
