Nipple Piercings and the Jewelry

Standard nipple piercings

A nipple piercing is a body piercing, centered usually at the base of the nipple. It can be pierced at any angle but is usually done horizontally or, less often, vertically. It is also possible to place multiple piercings on top of one another. The perforation of the nipple to apply jewelry has been practiced by various people throughout history, male and female. Why do people get their nipples pierced you ask? Most men and women claim an increase in sensitivity and arousal after having their nipples pierced. As a result there has been a reported increase of men and women requesting this procedure.

While there are not many potential complications some people have noted that they can take up to a year and a half to heal fully. The nipple is typically fleshy enough to pierce securely behind plenty of skin to prevent rejection. However, if the nipple jewelry gauge is too thin or the piercing is not deep enough to begin with, there is a risk of rejection. Certain complications can make rejection more likely, such as metal allergies, infections, or excessive pulling/tugging. If your nipples are sore during the healing process, an ice pack can do wonders. If you don’t have an ice pack, a package of small frozen vegetables like peas or corn works really well. Also salt water soaks will provide comfort to a sore nipple piercing. Most nipples will rest comfortably in a small cup of salt water, so this can be done easily while watching TV, reading a book or relaxing. Soak each pierced nipple for about 5 minutes and then rinse well. During the day or for an easier solution you can simply use the H20cean Piercing Aftercare Spray which is made for piercing aftercare.

To avoid any complications you will need to care for your piercing! First you need to soak the piercing in an epsom salt water solution for about 5-10 minutes. Once you’ve soaked the piercing you will need to properly clean and disinfect the area. Wipe away all the dry and dead skin, then apply liquid soap on a q-tip or cotton ball and gently clean the area. Rinse the area well and be sure to get all the soap off. After you’ve soaked and thoroughly cleaned your piercing, you can finish with the saline solution. Squirt the entire piercing with the saline and then rotate your piercing very carefully to prevent the skin growing to the piercing. You will also need to make sure your nipples stay off limits until healed so as to not suffer setbacks.

Nipple piercing jewelry can come in a variety of choices! One of which is barbells, which includes straight barbells, circular barbells, curved barbell, and spirals. You may also choose to wear a ring which could be a fixed ring, or a captive ring. A few other choices are stirrups, shields, collars, whirls, rounders, clamps, discs, spirals, covers, caps, and swings. With so many choices how do you choose? Well its really a matter of personality and what you find attractive! Don’t limit yourself be open to different options! Just make sure the material they are made from is safe! Usually you want to stick with Surgical Steel, Gold, Hybrids, or Titanium, some others that are commonly used are , blackline, and acrylic pieces.

A common question that comes up for women is, will nipple piercings affect the ability to breastfeed? There is no evidence that pierced nipples will affect your ability to breastfeed. Your breasts will still produce adequate milk for your baby. Each nipple has between fifteen and twenty tiny nipple pores that the milk comes out of, so even if some were damaged, there should be plenty left for nursing. However there is always the chance of complications that are not the norm, and can not be accounted for so it is each woman’s decision.

There however are several complications resulting from nursing with nipple jewelry inserted can include poor latch, slurping, gagging, and milk leaking from the baby’s mouth. So it is best to remove nipple piercings before breastfeeding. Most body piercing Professionals however will refuse to pierce a pregnant woman because piercing causes stress on the body that could potentially complicate a pregnancy.

By following these guidelines and your piercers advice you should be able to avoid complications and enjoy your piercings to the fullest!

Post Body Piercing Care – Personal Care & Hygiene

Body PiercingWalking out of a piercing parlor with a body jewelry piece brilliantly glinting on your eyebrow, ears, tongue, labret, nose or places that cannot be seen? The excitement and the awesome feeling of having got your body pierced helps to ignore the pain. However, just don’t think you did it and are done too early as the painful procedure may be over but the hard part is still to come – taking care of body

The piercer’s done his job and given instructions. Now it’s up to you and how you care for it will determine whether it’s rejected or stays. So read on and follow the instructions through and through to avoid infections and still have a shiny body jewelry sparkling on your eyebrow, labret or ears, even after

  • Never use alcohol or peroxide to clean the pierced area. These are not safe and may enhance the chances of getting an infection. It dries out the skin too.
  • Do not let the body piercing come in contact with other people’s body fluids (sweat, saliva, or anyt others).  Just keep the pierced area off limits for a few days.
  • Avoid diving into public swimming pools before your piercing is fully accepted by the body and is totally healed.
  • Don’t move the body jewelry pierced inside your skin. It may result in a bruise. Just let it be.

And if it has been sometime now and the body piercing still has not healed then go to a doctor.

Follow the above instructions and keep the jewelry and yourself shining!

Avoiding Body Piercing Infections is not Rocket Science!

Body jewelry bought from a reputable dealer and going under a professional piercer’s needle are not the only two fool proof essentials to help avoid body piercing infections. Along with these two are some other necessary steps that first timers need to take. Experienced/ initiated body piercing enthusiasts can’t afford to miss these either and should not even try.

Contaminated body piercing equipment can cause Hepatitis or even HIV. If this does not make you more cautious then I don’t know what will! Another fact : Piercing guns cannot be sterilized so it’s safer to even get your ears pierced with a needle than with a gun, which is the only thing that a gun is remotely useful for, and we do not feel that it is good for that either.

Follow the simple steps mentioned below and come out of the piercing parlor cool and clean!

  • If th quality body jewelry bit is taken care of (i.e it’s nickel and other toxins free), then check the body piercing equipment. From sterilized gloves to instruments; everything should be squeaky clean, new, and or sterilized.
  • The parlor should be spic and span too and of course the piercer too. If there’s even a slightest doubt about the hygiene of the place then don’t go ahead with it there, just go to another place.
  • Get piercing done where disposable instruments are used and thrown away after single use.
  • Listen to all the personal care instructions very carefully and follow them religiously. Out of parlor does not mean out of the danger zone. Body piercing infections usually develop After you leave the piercer.

Not rocket science right? Simple but definitely not passable. These may be the difference between  a healthy you or an infected you.  :)

Body Jewelry Face Off – Facial Piercings & New Trends

Facial piercings are cool and really happening (if there are no cuts, bruises or infections). Traditional facial piercings included conventional areas that did not raise many eyebrows. However the new trends in facial piercings are not just about raising eyebrows but shocking you! If you thought labret piercing, nose, nose septum, eyebrows piercing, ear lobes were rebellious enough then you probably didn’t see this coming.

The new trends in facial piercings shining these days are:

Philtrum or Medusa PiercingBody jewelry in this one is attractively perched at the small cleft between the upper lip and the nose. Now snakes has nothing to do with it. It’s also a mere speculation that Medusa had her philtrum pierced.

Monroe or Madonna Piercing – This was perhaps invented by those for who thought moles were sexy and stunning. Imagine having a shiny body jewelry piece lighting up your face instead of  a dark mole. Many body piercing fanatics have found quite a like for such facial piercing. Small body jewelry pieces are pierced in areas around the face where moles are commonly found.

The Anti-Eyebrow Piercing – In this a two-surface body piercing jewelry piece is involved. And as the name typically suggests, this piercing is not about piercing eyebrows but lies diametrically opposing them – below the eye. Usually the first corner is near the corner of the eye and the second is farther back down – like tear drops falling. Sounds like a tear-jerker? Well it isn’t really and has found a place in the book of cool body piercings.

Alright so now you know what’s new in the facial piercing circuit and may be already twitching to try these asap. But keep in mind that facial piercings are (obviously) in your face-obvious, so if you are a professional with a piercing impulse then you may just want to take a moment to think. Others – who have already taken the body piercing plunge and want to go deeper to come out shinier than ever – will find it interesting (if already not tried).

Until then keep up the shine and safety while getting pierced.

Gold Body Jewelry – Make a Brighter & Better Piercing Choice

Thinking of getting your body pierced? Go for gold body jewelry. It’s shinier, brighter and safer than many other metals. Body piercing takes a lot of guts to say yes to in the first  place and if it’s gold jewelry that you have set your eyes on, than guts alone won’t be helpful. Gold body jewelry definitely costs much more then stainless or plastic body jewelry but it sure is worth every dollar spent!

And it’s your body so the piercing jewelry has to be gold, doesn’t it? Alright may be at least one. No other metal can surpass the luxury and royalty that gold possesses. Also gold being a lot safer adds to it’s indispensability in body piercing.  So let’s talk about it and analyze:

Why opt for gold body jewelry?

Its safety is already talked about. There is one more thing -  gold body jewelry for body piercing should be completely nickel free. Nickel is an impurity that may cause allergy to skin and even result in rejection of the the body jewelry. Also try and always buy 14K pure gold body jewelry.

Because there’s both white and yellow – Both white and gold body jewelry are great and look absolutely stunning on skin. White gold may be a tad rarer (and perhaps more expensive) than yellow but is awesome for both men and women.

Gold jewelry adds fashion and zing to personality – Nothing can beat a brightly shining piece of body jewelry glistening on your skin.

As the summer gets on and the more skin shows, have piercing with gold body jewelry may be a good idea! The above are reasons enough for us, hope they are for you too!

Before the Body Jewelry is Installed – Pre-Piercing Preparation

Pre body piercing preparation is much easier than this tongue-twister-of-a-phrase. All it requires is a little bit of alertness, care and clear-cut know-how on part of the girl or guy deciding to take the pinch of the needle.

So what should you do to get your body piercing-ready? Follow the steps below and get all set for the sparkles :)

  1. Binging on alcohol is definitely a no no. Not even if the binge was 48 hours before  the piercing appointment.
  2. Go to the piercing parlor well hydrated and avoid taking blood thinning medication  or other such foods. That means aspirin, Advil or Aleve.
  3. Stop taking caffeine several days before the actual piercing happens. Take Vitamin K as much you can. It’s needed for optimal piercing.
  4. Get enough rest the night before your piercing appointment. Nervousness won’t really help you much.
  5. Personal hygiene needless to say will come in very handy in fighting off the undesired things that may come along with body jewelry like infection.
  6. Right before you’re on the chair/table; try some breathing and relaxing exercises and be acceptable to the situation and remember that it’s only going to take a few moments.

Have a snack, fruit or juice after the piercing is done. It will help maintain the blood sugar level and will relax you a bit.

Pre-piercing prep is area-specific too. That means it depends on what part of the body are you getting the piercing done. So oral piercing, eyebrow piercing, genital piercing  each will have unique preparations before the piercing. However, the basic points above  also remain  valid for all sorts of piercings.

Smile & Shine with Smiley Piercing

This ain’t no emoticon but instead a new body piercing style!  Want to add a little sparkle to your smile? Then the smiley piercing is for you. Also known as upper lip frenulum piercing, this piercing is one of the easiest to heal and involves minimum pain. The piercing is done on the inside of the upper lip (the webbing) and hence shows only when you smile.

Smiley piercing has surfaced recently and even has an antagonist to it – the Frowny piercing! Gaining popularity by the minute, many people are getting attracted towards smiley piercing due to a virtually painless procedure and obviously the shine it adds to your smile.

Captive bead ring is the most commonly used jewelry option for smiley piercing. Curved barbells have been known to be used as well.

Smiley Piercing – Smile your way out of the parlor

Since it does not really hurt much and heals quickly, smiley piercing may be the best way to get initiated into body piercing (just may be, rest depends on your choice). The piercing jewelry will fall below gum line and hence keeping gums and teeth clean (especially after meals) is very important.

Take care that there are no gum infections or damage to teeth. Touching/ playing with the jewelry is a total no no. This not only because your oral health is threatened but also the piercing jewelry may tear out!

Smiley piercing sure has a lot of takers lately yet its still rare overall. It’s body modification at it’s innovative best.

Potential (Avoidable) Problems Involved in Body Piercing

Body piercing has many takers and why not? It’s about being yourself, after all! However, sometimes even the greatest of things come with a few not-so-great risks and in body piercing these are a few (avoidable) problems.

When a piercing goes wrong it’s the pierced area that gets effected the most – sometimes serious and other times curable. That’s why it is mandatory to get body piercing done from a certified professional with great piercing skills and even a more hygienic piercing studio and tools.

Let’s take a look into what problems there can be and how you can avoid them.

Infections – Generally happens when the piercing is fresh and susceptible to bacterial and fungal invasions. Swelling, redness may result as the body fights them off. A discharge of puss is also common. A good clean up after piercing and compresses can help to prevent infection.

Metal Hypersensitivity – It’s nickel that causes it. Many people are allergic to nickel and hence the body rejects body jewelry with nickel in it, causing an allergic reaction. Go for nickel free body jewelry always or hypoallergenic metals.

Migration – Yes a piercing can move to another place. The piercing can travel through the skin and position in a different location other than the original. This is usually a result of improper piercing or a body’s reaction to body jewelry.

Scarring – The pierced area may appear scarred and different from the surrounding tissue. Scars become prominent when the piercing is removed.

Others could be skin abscesses, boils etc. Body piercing isn’t just problems but since there’s piercing, needle and skin involved you can’t really get out of it the way you went in. And if you ask those with piercings they will tell you how the passion and plenty of reasons-to-get-pierced easily outnumber these problems. Moreover, these can be easily avoided by being a little more aware and following healthy practices.

So don’t let these put you off, remember it’s about who you are and not what can go wrong.

Engagement Tongue Rings – For a Jaw Dropping Proposal

Engagement rings are no longer cut out for the ring finger. The bling symbol of commitment has found a different place to make its mark – the tongue!! Make way for engagement tongue rings!! Hard to digest? Well the trend not really but the rings should be (hard to digest) as these better stick to tongues only.

A unique and fast catching body piercing jewelry trend, engagement tongue rings is no tongue in cheek humor. Love bitten couples daring to be bold, different and not so traditional are finding engagement tongue rings to be pretty fab!

Available in diamonds and gold, tongue rings for the pre-nup commitment are not short on any shine or sparkle. Branded under the tag of ‘alternative engagement’ jewelry, engagement tongue rings are sure alternative!

Tongue Engagement rings – Piercing trends do not stop at that

There’s more – belly button rings have also caught the fancy of couples ready to go down the aisle. Now we’ve heard about Cupid piercing hearts but spouses piercing each other is something rare. Anyhow whatever floats one’s boat!

When you are in love nothing seems beyond it. Thinking of popping the question and wanna go the road less traveled – go for engagement body piercing jewelry. However, first make sure that your girlfriend/ boyfriend is fine with it or else one of you will end up with a bruise!

What say the traditionalists?

New Plymouth District Council Mulls a New Piercing By Law

A new bylaw (under consideration) in the New Plymouth District Council will impose new restrictions on tattoo and body piercing parlors that will require them to be licensed and maintain strict health standards vis-a-vis sterilization of equipment, general health and safety and also record keeping. The new law proposed is to prevent transmission of Hepatitis B and C. Read the whole story at:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/3671703/Piercing-bylaw-plan-welcomed

The law has been welcomed by tattoo artists and body piercers alike who would want to break the unpleasant myths clouding their profession. Whether it’s getting inked or under the piercing gun, safety is primary!

Young people smart enough to be rebel or should also be smart enough to worry about their health! You have to remember that body modification is only valid as long as there is a body to modify.

Want body piercing? Get it the right way

Body Jewelry – Go for nickel free body jewelry only. Nickel causes allergies and may lead to infection.

Body Piercing Parlor – Go to a licensed piercing parlor. New Plymouth will have many licensed parlors now. But you can sure find one in your area because if not the law, the practice should be followed everywhere (at least)!

Body Piercing Professional – Is this still a mystery? Certified professional piercer only!!

And if you are a body jewelry/ piercing enthusiast then spread the word of law in your area too. So that body piercing law becomes as popular as body piercing.
